Butter Landing is a free plane landing game for your browser. No signup, downloads, ads or purchases. Fly a short approach, stop on the runway, and challenge a friend to the same landing.
Drag anywhere on the sky to bank and raise or lower the nose. Drag up to raise it. Release to level the wings. On a keyboard, use arrow keys or WASD. Standard gamepads use the left stick. Throttle and brakes are automatic. Escape opens the menu and pauses.
Aim down the centerline. Four approach lights help you judge the slope: two white and two red means you are on the glide path. More white means high; more red means low. When you see Flare, gently raise the nose to soften your touchdown. Pulling too hard can stall the plane.
Aviation fans call an exceptionally smooth touchdown a butter landing. Here, Butter means at least 90 points and a touchdown rate of 120 feet per minute or less. It must also be a safe landing that stops on the runway.
Softness earns up to 40 points, touchdown zone 25, centerline 15, attitude and bounces 10, and rollout 10. A gentle landing outside the runway is not a safe landing: crashes, overruns and missed approaches score zero. Your result gives one tip for the next try.
Everyone gets the same airport, wind and start each UTC day. Your first completed daily result is saved separately from your best practice score. Retrying is always free. Finishing a daily builds your streak. A safe daily landing earns a dated passport stamp. The first tutorial is practice, not your daily attempt. Pausing does not change the conditions.
Yes. Share a result to send the same airport, weather and recorded controls in the link. Your friend flies beside a non-colliding ghost, then compares both results. No account is needed. Challenge results are local and friendly, not a cheat-proof world ranking.
Bests, passport stamps, daily results and opened friend results are stored only in this browser. Clearing browser storage clears them. If storage is blocked, you can still play, but progress lasts only until you close the page. A shared link contains the approach and controls, never a name. On Whizbang, optional site analytics measure starts, finishes and sharing without sending the replay.
The complete game is in this page. Once loaded, flying and ghost replays need no connection. Opening a new link still needs the page to be available. This is an arcade game, not flight training.
